I just read, Let Them Eat Slime by Jen Sorensen http://www.dailykos.com/...
And I have been pondering the effects of pink slime on people in general.
I am not a huge consumer of fast food. But when I am traveling I do eat it at times. But these past few years, I have had to become very picky about what I eat when it comes to fast food.
I have no illusions that burgers, fries and a coke are not healthfood. That eating those types of items every day will cause my ass to get larger.
But like I said, when you are pulling a road trip, or an all nighter, sometimes that is what is available.
But then I started to break out.
These weren't little zits, and they didn't sync up with my cycles like breakouts often do with women.
I noticed that I had these breakouts whenever I ate fast food beef, especially if I had it more than a 2 days in about a 10 day period.
These eruptions were nodules, they were large, red, hot to the touch and never came to a head. And I would get them all over, not just on my face.
If I stayed away from processed beef--they went away for the most part, but if I eat processed beef--they come back. All large, and scary looking. Some almost as large as a dime.
For the longest time, I thought perhaps I was becoming allergic to beef. So I cut way back on buying any kind of beef. Processed or not. We had already cut back for health reasons, you know, red meat is hard on the digestion, and is high in bad fats.
But with this new development, I cut it back to almost zero. I maybe have beef, 4 times a year if that.
And FYI Beef Producers, Now that I have heard of this, ridiculous practice, I am pissed, and I won't be buying more now.
And who wouldn't be mad about this? Especially if they have had issues that seem to be connected with PH imbalance in the body or liver dysfunction due to chronic ammonia ingestion?

Ammonia is a poison, prolonged contact can cause dermatitis, liver and kidney problems.
WTF Food Industry?! Are you going to pay for our Dialysis? For our Liver Transplants?
I double checked: Ammonia Hydroxide:
"Causes severe irritation and burns. Harmful if swallowed. Avoid breathing vapor or dust. Use with adequate ventilation. Avoid contact with eyes, skin, and clothes. Wash thoroughly after handling. Keep container closed. "

This would explain the altered liver functions of people who live on fast food!
This was my thought, and then I found this: http://www.livestrong.com/...
I have met a couple of parents with children who were overweight, whose liver stats were a bit anomalous. I wonder if it was due to the fact the kids were probably eating PINK SLIME at school!
I still wonder though, if the Mega-Food-Inc people have been forced to stop using Ammonia Hydroxide--what did they replace it with?
I seriously doubt that this outcry is the end of the story. And for all we know, Ammonia Hydroxide is simply the beginning of our disgust.
And You know the uproar about the Pink Slime in public Schools. No one has even thought about the fact that this is probably being fed to our military troops.
It causes me to wonder, if this is happening, the health effects this would have on people subjected to physically demanding and chronically stressful jobs?
All the studies that show the night shift is bad for your health--I wonder if it's actually due to the quality of food available at all night fast food establishments, that many mid-shift and night shift people are forced to eat.
All the health problems truck drivers and even police officers have now--it really does make one wonder.
"Grist's Tom Philpott explains pink slime this way: it's "the cheapest, least desirable beef on offer - fatty sweepings from the slaughterhouse floor, which are notoriously rife with pathogens like E. coli 0157 and antibiotic-resistant salmonella. (Beef Products, Inc. or BPI) sends the scraps through a series of machines, grinds them into a paste, separates out the fat, and laces the substance with ammonia to kill pathogens."
From Disabled World: http://www.disabled-world.com/...
The fact that this is the crap off the floor--explains the rash in Ecoli outbreaks in our ground beef, and all the recalls and illnesses that followed!
The timing of this issue matches up as well: Pink Slime was introduced into our meat in the 1990s.

So anyone else notice any adverse reactions that seem to only crop up after they eat fast food beef or "ground beef"?
