Before we get started: There are many folks who don't like Amazon. There are others who do. There are some who boycott it completely; others hold their noses and use it when it is the only available outlet to get something. This post is for those who either like Amazon or who are willing & able to use it in spite of preferring to avoid it whenever possible. If you dislike Amazon & boycott it at all costs, boycott this diary as well instead of posting comments about how awful it is.
On Sunday, 18 March 2012, we'll be offering a free promotional download of Her Final Year: A Care-Giving Memoir. (It's also available in print form through Amazon, but we're just running the free promo for the downloadable Kindle version.) Update: Major hat-tip to Alma, who points out in comments that I was remiss & neglected to link directly to the download at Amazon.
And the best part of this? You don't need to own a Kindle to download & read it.
Join me below the orange squiggly thing if you would...
Amazon offers a bunch of free reading apps for those who don't own a Kindle, covering iPhone, Windows PC, Mac, Blackberry, iPad, Android, Windows Phone 7, and - with their Kindle Cloud Reader - you can also read Kindle books via a browser, which works well for some folks using Linux distros.
If you're not already aware of it, Kossack Shadan7 and I co-authored, with our wives, our caregiving experiences. Both Shadan & I had been the primary care-givers for our mothers-in-law, and our experiences ran fairly parallel over almost the same period of time.
We thought the synchronicity curious, and resolved to look into writing about our experiences. The result was Her Final Year: A Care-Giving Memoir and His First Year: A Journey of Recovery."
We also started the dKos group CareGiving Kos (many kudos to michelewln for her steady stream of supporting, interesting & beautiful posts there).
Those who read Her Final Year - and those who reviewed it - seemed to really enjoy it, yet it appeared to fail to achieve a sustained level of interest. Hence, our promotion of it as a free download for a day. We'll see how this goes...
Please don't miss out on the chance to grab a copy, even if you aren't a Kindle owner. The free readers we've pointed to offer another great opportunity, also, because there are often many books - some by easily recognized established authors - which are offered as free downloads from time to time.
One thing people need to look out for, however, is that they ensure the price really reads "0.00" - on Amazon, they have a program for "Amazon Prime" members where it will show 0.00, so (unless you're an Amazon Prime member) you have to check to see that the actual price for non-Prime members is $0.00.
We hope you download a copy, read it and tell others what you think.
And if you're so inclined, we'd also love it if you could add your thoughts in the form of a review - either on Amazon, or somewhere else online - and let us know where to find it.
Namaste., and thank you.
