I found a few specific examples of medical problems that are not covered by EMTALA (Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act, discussed in Angie's diary):
I also found a 2011 Washington State Medical Association proposal that had a massive list of "non-emergent" conditions that they say should not be covered under EMTALA. Including:
- Visual Loss
- Cardiac dysrrhythmias (Not Otherwise Specified)
- Hypoglycemic coma
- pneumonia (Pneumococcal)
In addition, even if you are covered under EMTALA, your care is not paid for by the government. The hospital can and will bill you for the full price. The area where hospitals do lose money is with indigent people that they cannot track down. Which is the basis for most complaint about EMTALA.

If you have more examples of non-treated conditions -- especially links from reliable sources or hospital documents -- please add them. Let's get some real examples of people who have been refused treatment down.
