Just this year before an audience in New Hampshire, with John McCain at his side, Mitt Romney explained to us his stance on "Stay At Home Moms" who take government assistance.
“I wanted to increase the work requirement,” said Romney. “I said, for instance, that even if you have a child 2 years of age, you need to go to work. And people said, ‘Well that’s heartless.’ And I said, ‘No, no, I’m willing to spend more giving day care to allow those parents to go back to work. It’ll cost the state more providing that daycare, but I want the individuals to have the dignity of work.”
As I guess, opposed to the
dignity of being a stay at home Mother?
"Heartless"? More like Brainless I think.
Yeah, well maybe they can find this kind of work - if they can get it.
I'm just saying.
Just yesterday I wrote a diary about Ann Romney wherein I asked when her lesser half Mitt would come forward and fully show stay at home mothers the dignity they deserve.
Y'know, I for one am now glad that Ann Romney has come out of the closet in her full throated and well stated support for the "Choices" that women make. Particularly when those choices involve dedicating themselves to care of their family.
I'm glad she's standing strong for women, and their ability to pursue the wonderful Option of being a Stay-At-Home Mother. We should honor this work. The mutiple jobs of being a au pair/Nanny/Chauffeur/Homemaker/Cook/Housekeeper/Plumber/Nurse/Educator has enormous value in our society. America couldn't function without this.
I'm not even going to mention the fact that Ann Romney herself essentially paid other people to do these jobs for her - or that all her children are grown with children of their own, so what's keeping her at home, her Dressage Horse or supervising the construction of the Romney Car Elevator? - never mind all that, let's just all agree that these are important jobs and they should be treated exactly as important as they are.
Now that we all agree, I await with baited breathe the upcoming announcement from the Romney campaign, or his better half, their strong and vehement support for granting full employment rights and protections for Stay At Home Mothers.
I'm certain that Mitt Romney will support tax breaks for Mothers that will allow them to better navigate rough economic waters. That they'll support government subsidies to allow women the Freedom to stay at home and take care of their children, and feed them without having to have a "job" if they want to. I'm certain that the Romney campaign will be - any second now - endorsing the idea of granting Social Security Benefits to Mothers for their years of service in the home. I'm sure that Romney will endorse guaranteed health care for all mothers and their children, regardless of their ability to pay or whether they also work outside the home.
Yeah, any second now...
Time's Up.
Now, I guess I have my answer.
Let me just ad one thing that I edited into my diary yesterday. A "Choice" is meaningless, if you don't the Freedom to make it.

10:40 AM PT: Perhaps we can call this the Romney Rule: If you're a 0.1%er like Ann Romney making the choice to be a SAHM (Stay-At-Home-Mother) is an act of nobility, but if you're in the 99% it's an act of undignified sloth.
