E.J. Montini's column in the Arizona Republic today had a great quote from Darcy Olson, the President and CEO of Goldwater. Montini once called Goldwater "puppeteers" with respect to Arizona Politics. Olson's response was "I was so flattered."
I suppose she would be. I mean, after all, that means she is doing her job, and doing it well. What offends me about this comment is that anyone would think that being an unelected puppeteer behind elected officials is something to be desired or applauded.
If a liberal think tank was writing the laws, Goldwater, ALEC and their ilk would be screaming at the top of their lungs about "undue influence". Isn't that what Fox News is for? The conservatives are consistently the first to cry foul when another group successfully uses methods that, in general, the conservative groups pioneered.
So why can't they see the hypocrisy in their own behavior?
