IT'S CRUNCH TIME. It's time to turn progressive values into action.
California Attorney General Kamala Harris' Homeowners' Bill of Rights will either die shortly in committee or get voted out of committee for a full vote in the Legislature. If it fails, hundreds of thousands of California homeowners are going to continue to be f***ed over by banks in many different ways -- such as being foreclosed on while in the middle of loan modification negotiations, and continuing to be without judicial recourse when banks take illegal actions during foreclosure procedings.
For more background you can check out my previous diaries on the subject:
BUT THE IMPORTANT THING YOU CAN DO RIGHT NOW IS CALL THE ONE PERSON WHO HOLDS ALL THE CARDS:
California State Senator Ron Calderon.
From Rick Jacobs at the Courage Campaign:
We just got word from Sacramento -- the special committee working on the Homeowner Bill of Rights is coming to a vote. The bill contains key elements for which we've fought, including the ability for homeowners to defend their homes in court if banks break the law, but the Big Banks are mounting one last push against California homeowners.
Sen. Ron Calderon (D-Montebello) will decide the bill's fate. He recently offered public support for real enforcement measures, but is under a lot of pressure. Let's show him that we have his back against the banks, so he stays strong for homeowners.
Please, take three minutes NOW to call Sen. Calderon and say: Stay strong. We're with you. Don't give into the Big Banks. Click here for his phone number and a script.
We can finally put an end to many of the outrageous, unethical practices of the Big Banks in California, the state that has been devastated more than any other by foreclosure abuse. This would be a tremendous victory for homeowners.
Call Sen. Calderon and ask him to stay strong, be a champion for homeowners, and don't back down to the Big Banks.
Yours in the fight for a better California,
Call Senator Calderon at (916) 651-4030, either directly or via the links in the quoted email above.
You should also call your California State legislators and tell them you support the Homeowners' Bill of Rights legislative package and want to see it voted on.
And please rec this diary so that more people will see it and call.
Remember, if you are at NN12 it's still business hours in California.
Thank you for your action!
