Good morning Kossacks and welcome to Morning Open Thread.
We're here every morning at 6:30 a.m Eastern time. Feel free to volunteer to take a day - permanent or just once in awhile. With the autopublish feature you can set it and forget it. Quite often the diarist de jour shows up much later (like me), that's the beauty of Open Thread...it carries on without you! Just let us know in the comments.
It seems that it's not just fashion that seems to come and go in cycles, but politics as well. JaxDem's excellent diary on Father's Day reminded me that those who don't study history are doomed to repeat it. Recent events in my home state of Wisconsin had me thinking of the political history of the state, and then I was catching up on my TV, watching one of my favorite people, Bill Moyers, doing a piece on Joseph McCarthy.
That is exactly where we are at again. Good vs. evil, Communists (Democrats) vs. the Tea Party, you name it. The country seems to have gone crazy, with immigrant arrests replacing (or adding to) the witch hunts of the 50's, insane gun laws in Florida, elected officials censured for using anatomically correct terms during speeches, etc., etc.....
WTF? Is there something in the water?
Coming up in the next week or two is the decision on the Affordable Care Act. It doesn't sound promising. And the presidential race gets more insane by the day. Who would have thought that people would applaud getting rid of teachers, policemen, and firefighters?
It's time to quit watching the news.
On that note, I downgraded my cable and home phone, so now I just have local channels. No more CNN, MSNBC, or FOX Noise. If it's important enough, I'll hear about it. The flip side is that now I can afford the monthly plan on a smart phone, which I need for my side business. The lord taketh away and the lord giveth.
Jibber jabber, y'all!
