I'm already growing weary of the new Republican meme that Obamacare is a huge tax on the middle class, and it is unprecedented...unprecedented, I tell you!...because we've never! had to pay a tax on something we have not yet purchased.
Boloney.
We pay taxes on things we do not personally buy all the time. My taxes went toward:
--Infrastructure in states where I do not live or travel
--Someone else's Pell Grants and GI bills to attend college
--The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
My taxes bailed out Wall Street bankers, and I didn't even get the benefit of modifying their behavior with my tax, as they are still engaged in the same behavior.
My taxes paid for California's light rail system (which my governor refused federal dollars -- my dollars -- to accept in Florida).
My taxes paid for cleaner air around the nation and cleaner water, too. (Although it's a lot less clean than it should be).
Most relevantly, my taxes paid for the tens of millions of uninsured individuals who have had to go to the ER or get emergency surgery and pass those costs onto the public because they didn't have insurance.
So, fellow Kossacks. Let's make a list. What are you paying for with your taxes that you never get to enjoy personally?
