Welcome, friends. The purpose of this regular series is to promote enthusiasm and action among Daily Kos members. Romney will very likely out-fundraise President Obama. However, we believe that we can still win if (1) we can remain competitive financially, and (2) we volunteer our time and energy (GOTV, canvassing, phonebanking, LTE, ...).

There are times when I absolutely love our opposition! Thank you Townhall for posting this video that is so delicious that it really needs to go viral. Watch as David Axelrod, Robert Gibbs and Debbie Wasserman Schultz refuse to repudiate Reid's charges and instead ask why Romney won't just release the tax records. These conversations appeared on CNN, Fox and ABC this morning. Go team Obama!
And Reince Priebus can only come up with "dirty liar?" Really? Dirty liar? That is what this charge has reduced the GOP to - childish name calling. It's truly embarrassing, for them.
Thank you, Eric Nelson, for providing this clip in the comments:
Release the Records, Romney!
OTOH, I also love this new ad by the Obama Campaign which came out this weekend.
From Care2.com's article Obama Campaign Won't Back Down Over Contraception:
Romney campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul responded to Saturday’s ad with the following statement:
One day after the unemployment rate increased and we reached 42 consecutive months with a jobless rate greater than eight percent, it is not surprising that the Obama campaign would release a false ad in an attempt to distract from the effects of the President’s failed policies. Dishonest political attacks will not change the fact that President Obama has not turned around the economy, and his policies have hurt women and families all over the country. We tried it the President’s way, and middle-class workers have paid the price. Mitt Romney has a Plan for a Stronger Middle Class that will jumpstart the economy and bring back millions of jobs.
The commercial began airing Saturday morning in Ohio, Florida, Colorado, Nevada, North Carolina, Iowa and Washington, D.C.
The president holds a steady lead among women voters, but this latest ad buy suggests its a lead the campaign is not taking for granted.
It is always good to hear that we are not being taken for granted. And to hear the tone deaf response from our opponents. To call a direct quote from Mitt Romney a "false ad" is somehow terribly appropriate and in keeping with the Romey campaign's refusal to recognize the truth if it bit them in the collective or individual ass.
And, why won't Romney's party give us the tax cut we need in order to "jumpstart the economy and bring back jobs?" Probably because they have elevated an individual to an unelected leadership position who proudly proclaimed: "When I became 21, I decided that nobody learned anything about politics after the age of 21." And clearly, Mr Norquist hasn't. What is tragic is that his followers don't even appear to have the maturity of a 21 year old to use their own judgement about what is necessary for our nation to prosper. Of course, it is always easier to allow someone else to do your thinking for you.
Fortunately, our President has the maturity of a man his age (Happy Birthday, yesterday, Mr. President!) and wants us to keep our hard earned money. And has called on Congress to extend the tax breaks for the first $250,000 of income.
In other news this weekend, David Axelrod was on Fox News today, and try as I might, I just can't seem to embed the video in this diary, but if anyone wants to go there, the link is: http://www.foxnews.com/...
The Hill, in a blog post (Romney campaign calls Dem challenge to Ohio voter law ‘despicable’ by Cameron Joseph) that emphasizes the Romney camp's ludicrous charges that the Obama campaign is trying to deprive service members of the three days of early voting in Ohio, gives the second to the last paragraph to a quote from the Axelrod interview:
"What that lawsuit calls for is not to deprive the military of the right to vote on the final weekend of the campaign," Obama senior adviser David Axelrod said on Fox News Sunday. "Of course they should have that right. What the suit is about is whether the rest of Ohio should have the same right. And I think it's shameful that Gov. Romney would hide behind our servicemen and women to try and win a lawsuit to deprive other Ohioans of the right to vote."
Clearly, Mr Joseph does not feel that the truth would make an attractive lead for his post, and so must bury it somewhere since it really should be included even though it refutes his headline. More of the fairness and balance that the media is so in love with.
More Sunday talk, this time from CBS' Politics Panel, discussion of how poor Mitt Romney has been outspent. Jan Crawford of CBS News has a sad:
She also said the president has outspent Romney in this early part of the campaign. "He's been outspent hugely in these battleground states because he doesn't have the kind of money right now that the Obama campaign has. He's been outspent five to one, eight to one in some of the battleground states," she said.
Michael Crowley with Time Magazine, who recently wrote an articleabout campaign spending this election cycle, said the outside groups are playing a major role this campaign season.
"The key thing for people to understand, for a variety of reasons, Republicans are going to have a substantial spending advantage on the outside money, much of which won't be disclosed. It's not very clearly documented. When it is disclosed, a lot of it really won't come out until the very last days of the election. And although the Obama campaign, the official campaign will probably raise and spend more than the official Romney campaign, when you count in all the outside groups on both sides, Republicans will probably have more money to spend. And a lot of that has to do with Karl Rove," he said, referring to President George W. Bush's strategist.
The President will visit Connecticut on Monday to attend fund raisers. I found it interesting that, although he leads Romney by 12 points in the latest Quinnipac poll in Connecticut, according to
The Register Citizen
Romney has raised about $4.8 million from Connecticut's residents in this election cycle, compared to $2.9 million for Obama, according to Federal Election Commission records.
Hopefully this visit will make up some of that difference, but no matter how much money the top 1% give to Romney's campaign, they still only have one vote per person. (Until of course, they get that amendment passed that allows corporations to vote based on sales)
So, it is up to us to get that vote out in November, or earlier if your state allows.
And here is a new tool from the Obama campaign to help while you are out on the street getting out the vote, a smart phone app:
Remember that time is running out. Every day that is left is a day that we must use to make sure we move forward and not back.
And just in case you missed this yesterday:
President Obama congratulates all of the American athletes competing in the Olympics and Paralympics this summer. These men and women have inspired us all with their hard work, determination, and their indomitable spirit as they present the best of America to the rest of the world. The President tells our Olympic and Paralympic competitors that the American people could not be prouder of them, and thanks them for reminding us that we are one people, and by working together we can achieve great things.
