In the short time since Paul Ryan became the Republican vice-presidential nominee, I've already seen some good pieces of journalism about his long-time Rand crush. See http://www.newyorker.com/... and http://www.slate.com/... for example. But I wonder if Rand would be toxic enough, in short easily digestible bites, to make a decent ad out of?
I ask myself the question because of the notion that many swing voters have trouble accepting the fact that the Romney/Ryan plan involves slashing Medicare, Medicaid, and deep cuts to the rest of the government, to fund enormous tax cuts for super-high earners, essentially people like Romney. The Obama campaign and its allies have attacked this problem by educating people about Mitt Romney's past and character: his history of tax avoidance, refusal to release his (obviously very damaging) tax returns, his business career as a corporate raider, and so on. See http://nymag.com/....
Could Rand serve a similar purpose with Ryan? I put together an admittedly somewhat clumsy attempt at what an ad might look like (imagine it with better cuts, dramatic voice-over, etc.), for sake of discussion:
(For those who can't view clips, the video consists mostly of clips of Ayn Rand talking about her philosophy in an old Mike Wallace interview, bookended by clips of Ryan gushing about how she is his lodestone in life. The full interview is on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/....)
Any thoughts?
