My seven year old son had some questions for me at dinner on who Mitt Romney is.
His first question was "Is Mitt Romney richer than Barrack Obama?"
I responded, "Romney is much richer."
"Does he want Barrack Obama's money? How did he get rich?"
I took the opportunity to mention how Mitt got his money. I said "He fired a bunch of people and moved their companies to different countries. He got paid a lot of money to do this."
My son's expression had had weird look as wrinkled up his nose. He asked " What would he do if he were president?"
I took the opening.......
"He wants to eliminate PBS Kids."
"No more Wild Kratts, no more Electric Company, no more Sesame Street, no more Super Why." (He loves the Wild Kratts and a few other shows.)
My son replied " But what would happen to PBSkids.com? (his favorite web site with learning games)
I said ," President Romney would take it down PBSkids.org."
I had never heard the sound my son produced next......
He bellowed in a wail I had never heard before. Unable to believe that someone could be so mean and so inhuman, he wailed hysterically in the middle of dinner. He continued to cry and wail for about 3 minutes. My wife shot me her famous "look" telling me I non-verbally I had screwed up. I had to endure her stare for the duration of my son's fit.
I replied to my wife, " I understand this is harsh talk, but our local congressman John Kline has already voted to eliminate PBS. At the very least, under Republican control, PBS would turn into a non- stop commercial for Bratz dolls, Hot Wheels, Lego, and Cabbage Patch Dolls. Worst case- they eliminate PBS altogether."
To reaasure my son, (so he could sleep later) I said, "Many people including your Daddy are working to reelect Barrack Obama. Obama will keep PBS Kids.
My son stopped his fit and asked, "What's for dessert. Daddy?"
Question for Mittens: "Mr. Romney, you have stated that you intend on eliminating PBS to help you balance the budget. What would you say to the millions of kids who watch
PBS kids programming including shows like the Wild Kratts and Sesame Street?"
"I have a seven year old son and a 4 year daughter who would like to give you a piece of their mind."
