Hope you have a bit of outrage left.... I believe you'll need it.
Brace yourselves.
The story, by the way, comes via Huffington Post, which I don't read, but a search of google showed only one other article and it's quoting huffpo, so...from Huffingting Post:
John Kasich: 'We Have To Convince African Americans That They Can Start & Own Businesses'.
Let the headline simmer for a moment and then make the jump for some real flavor.
During an event hosted by The Huffington Post in Tampa, Florida, Gov. John Kasich (R-Ohio) gave his thoughts on the direction business growth should take.
"You know where entrepreneurship in my opinion has to go? Into the inner city," Kasich said. "We have to convince African Americans that they can start and own businesses. And I was just laughing the other day reading that great article about Jay-Z, who's got a tiny little ownership of the Newark Nets and he's running the whole gosh darn thing now."
Isn't that just gosh-darn swell?
Ignorance of anything to do with African-Americans just illuminates that small blurb. You can cut it with a cutting thing.
Beyond the ignorance we have him laughing at Jay-Z's 'little tiny' business, (Net worth: $460 million)
I. Just. Cringe.
And you will too as he continues with his masterful display of racial and cultural sensitivity
"People like that, who have shown that they can come form the streets and have a tough beginning and then be able to become great entrepreneurs -- we've got to get it into our schools in the inner-cities, we've got to show kids that, boy, you can be what you want to be.
And Arianna, I think it's critical, because if you take a look at the popele who've been left out of prosperity around our country. It's terrible. And we're having set-aside programs in my state and I tell my staff, I said look, if you don't give African Americans particularly an opportunity to share in the economic pie, we're just nuts."
"People like that".
What's that say to you?
To me it says Jay Z (who is really quite successful) isn't like 'him' - Governor Kasich. He looks down on him "People like that who have come from the streets".
People who are "out of prosperity"...what's that? "Out of prosperity"?
Pardon me, but do you have any prosperity?
I like how it seems totally oblivious as to the reasons 'these people' are out of prosperity - republican policies and obstructionism, to begin with the immediately obvious.
Therefore I say he's demonstrating the intersection of racism - looking down on inner-city people - and complete ignorance - in this case wholly unaware of how racist and ignorant he sounds.
I can't wait to see how this flies...
