Welcome, friends. The purpose of this regular series is to promote enthusiasm and action among Daily Kos members. Romney will very likely out-fundraise President Obama. However, we believe that we can still win if (1) we remain competitive financially, and (2) we volunteer our time and energy to GOTV (through canvassing, phonebanking, LTE, ...).

And The Chair Wins!
Retweeted 51,400 times and still counting
Twitter spokeswoman Rachael Horwitz said in an e-mail Sunday, "Wanted to share some news we broke this morning after doing some analysis over the weekend: @BarackObama's 'This seat's taken' Tweet was the most RTed of the Republican National Convention."
[...]
Horwitz said it is Obama's second-most-retweeted message of all time, the top tweet being Obama's message in May announcing his revised position on gay marriage: "Same-sex couples should be able to get married." That message was retweeted 61,500 times.
By comparison, Twitter analysis site 140Elect.com reports Mitt Romney's top tweet of the convention was an end-of-the-week tweet: "Our economy runs on freedom, not government. It's time we put our faith back in the American people." It has so far been retweeted about 4,800 times.
From USA Today
And in an interview with
Susan Page of USA Today, President Obama once again shows why he belongs in the Oval Office:
DES MOINES — President Obama wants to make it clear that, in his own words, "I am a huge Clint Eastwood fan."
"He is a great actor, and an even better director," the president said in an interview with USA TODAY aboard Air Force One, on his way to campaign rallies in Iowa Saturday. "I think the last few movies that he's made have been terrific."
Was he offended?
"One thing about being president or running for president — if you're easily offended, you should probably choose another profession." Obama said with a smile. He said there would be no effort to counter with a similar stunt at the Democratic National Convention, which opens in Charlotte Tuesday.
For those whose Sunday paper didn't include
Parade Magazine, or for those who don't get a Sunday paper, these comments are from today's interview with President and Mrs. Obama:
Mrs. Obama, I want to turn to you and your accomplishments as first lady—supporting military families and your health initiatives aimed at America’s children. Many PARADE readers asked, what do you hope to accomplish in your second term?
Michelle Obama: With Let’s Move!, our goal is to end the problem of childhood obesity in a generation. And while we’ve seen some very profound cultural shifts, we still have communities that don’t have access to affordable and healthy foods; we still need to find a way to impact the nature of food in grocery stores, in terms of sugar, fat, and salt; we need to keep educating families about how to structure a life that is healthy in a society where TV is rampant and communities don’t have enough resources in terms of sports and activities. When it comes to military families, we’ve only begun to scratch the surface. Many of these young people will have only known a life in the armed forces, so they’re going to need communities to be ready to embrace them and the challenges they’re going to enter society with, whether it’s post-traumatic stress disorder, or depression, or how to transition to another career.
Let’s get back to the campaign for just a minute. We spoke with Governor Romney and he talked about the way in which you, Mr. President, are making our country “far more like Europe, with a larger, more dominant, more intrusive government. …” How do you react to being characterized as somebody with foreign ideas?
President Obama: When you look at the policies I’ve promoted, they used to be considered bipartisan, mainstream ideas. What’s changed is not me. What’s changed is where the Republican Party’s gone. In fact, a lot of the things I’ve done are things that Mr. Romney, when he was governor of Massachusetts, seemed to promote. … What’s absolutely true is that we’ve had to take some emergency steps, like saving the auto industry, that weren’t free, that weren’t popular, but were the right thing to do.
A reminder came in my email this morning from
Environmentalists for Obama. A visit to their website includes, among much other information, the fact that while the President's fuel efficiency standards will save you $8,200 over the lifetime of your car, the Romney campaign and Super PACs have received $8.6 million from the fossil fuel industry anxious to protect their $4 Billion subsidies.
And this:
Environmentalists for Obama
President Obama has more than doubled the amount of electricity we get from wind and solar over his first term -- and his plans for wind power are expected to help grow the wind industry to support 100,000 jobs by 2016. Both Romney and Ryan want to kill the wind production tax credit, which could come at the expense of 37,000 American jobs. Oh, but they would keep giving $4 billion in tax breaks to Big Oil every single year.
And just this week, while President Obama's administration finalized historic fuel economy standards to double our vehicles' mileage by 2025 and cut carbon pollution from vehicles in half, the GOP adopted a platform that could kill investments in clean energy, and calls on Congress to prohibit the EPA from moving forward with new greenhouse gas regulations.
Surprise, surprise -- according to the Los Angeles Times, the platform "was written at the direction of the Romney campaign," making it heavily influenced by Big Oil interests.
A new 30 second video from the
Obama Truth Team:
The President's Summer Road Trip
When I was a kid, my parents used to pack all five of us kids in the car and head out of Chicago into Wisconsin, or my grandmother's farm in North Dakota, and even one year to Yellowstone National Park. I got to play navigator, and as I got older I did all of the "advance work" for our family road trips. In later years my husband and I planned our routes together, we loved being on the road. But our road trips were either in a car or an RV, and in no case did they include scenes like this:
President Obama in Iowa
Yesterday President Obama spoke in Iowa as reported in last night's
