Can somebody explain this dilemma about the Lone Star State politics: Why it is and what can be done to change it.
First of all I have never been to Texas. I heard about Austin's music scene (Kinky Friedman to the late Doug Sahm and the Sir Douglas Quintette) the great Blues of Sam "Lightin' Hopkins to Freddy King to the incredible Conjunto music of Flaco Jimenz and on and on and on!! (sorry for the run-on sentences)
Bu the politics is crazy
Nate Silver, who I have a lot of respect for, just posted another great blog
http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/...
There seems to be a real disconnect between the demographics and the politics of Texas
Nate Silver states: "A Democratic-leaning Texas may seem like a dream, but for years such a shift has appeared almost inevitable. The Hispanic population in Texas (38 percent) is the second largest in the nation, and it is growing quickly. The African-American population (12 percent) has kept pace with the state’s overall growth. And non-Hispanic whites have been shrinking as a share of the population."
Whats going on Why is the state so potentially Blue so deep deep red Why is the Latino vote not involved like their brothers and sisters in California?
What is the state of the Demographic Party and what needs to be done to "Beef it up"
In the meantime here's a non political clip from Les Blanc
