Can it really be eleven years ago that we were faced with the worst attack on the United States? I'm sure you remember where you were when you heard about the planes crashing into those towers. I flashed to my first trip to New York City as a 12 year old--I saw those towers being built.
I was taking my Dad to his therapy after a massive stroke. It was about a 50 minute drive to get him to the best facility to help him. We heard the news of the first plane, then the second. The therapists turned on a TV in one room--I looked in as often as I could--horrified to see the towers fall.
We would lose my sweet, darling Daddy the following March. The only nightmares I ever had as a kid was about Daddy dying.
How do we get through the worst of days?
My answer has always been:laughter.
Bill in Portland Maine's Cheers and Jeers with his wonderfully snarky humor and fabulous off kilter view of the world has gotten me through many a dark day. After ridiculous election results, after personal lows--Bill has always brought a smile and laughter. Bill and his partner Michael have also become very very dear friends--Molly too! Bill also introduced me to many other friends through Cheers and Jeers.
Follow me over the squiggly thingy....
Five years ago we promised to support Bill. We need to renew those subscriptions (make sure PayPal is still working), give Bill a raise or start supporting him!!!
The Bare Naked Ladies song "One Week" contains a line that always reminds me of my reaction to hard times:
How can I help it if I think you're funny when you're mad?
Trying hard not to smile though I feel bad
I'm the kind of guy who laughs at a funeral
Bill has provided Dailykos with community and joy. Cheers and Jeers is a comfortable place for newbies to dip their toes in the Kiddie Pool before moving on to the shark tank that is the rest of dkos! There are very serious things that happen in Cheers and Jeers--lots of great information, reactions to the news of the day and deep friendships have come from this wonderful place Bill has created for us.
