At this point, it's hard to find a route for Romney to be competitive in the next nine weeks. It's not impossible that he can take this in the end, but it's very, very unlikely.
Awesome. You should consider your favorite Snoopy Happy dance image inserted here.
Or, perhaps, your favorite Eeyore mopey dance gif, instead.
Because here's the problem: what do we do now?
Here's what we do now:
(1) Organize.
Winning the Presidency isn't enough. We need to make sure that our ideals play an important role in the compromises that will occur in the next government. To make that happen, we need to organize people who voted for Obama to move the people who voted against Romney (or Ryan or whoever) to pressure their politicians in the future.
The ACA is not yet fully implemented, and it won't be so until 2014. We need to make sure it isn't diluted.
The ACA is not perfect; in fact, it's really weak soup. We need to pressure the government to make it better.
We're still in Afghanistan, we need to get out.
Our schools are failing some students -- and they're failing all of our teachers.
I could go on -- but the core point is that winning elections is necessary to govern, but it's governing we want to affect. We need to ORGANIZE to make sure that we're still winning after the confetti is swept off the dance hall floor.
(2) Work down-ballot.
In my home state of Washington, Jay Inslee faces Rob McKenna in the gubernatorial election. We need to make sure Jay wins the Governorship. I'm sure that there are similar races in your home state. Phone bank! Doorbell! Give money. Let's make sure it's ELEPHANTS ALL THE WAY DOWN. (I'd say Turtles all the way down, but Mitch McConnell has the whole TURTLE thing sewn up.)
(3) GOTV
Get out the vote. Get out the vote. Starting now, make sure people know you're excited about Obama -- or Michelle, or DADT repeal, or contraception coverage...or coverage for adult children, or...whatever. So what if there are reasons you don't agree with the President on something? You have lots of reasons to be really enthusiastic about the Democrats in the House, the Senate, the Presidency, and your local school board. Be loud and proud of those reasons.
And get out and GET OUT THE VOTE.
