Time to take this race out of the Leans Republican category and put it in the Leans Democrat category because the latest Marquette poll is confirming PPP/Democracy For America's poll from Monday that has Democrat Tammy Baldwin in the lead over Republican Tommy Thompson (R)! PPP had Baldwin beating Thompson, 48% to 45% but Marquette shows Baldwin beating Thompson by a much bigger lead, 50 to 41 percent:

The poll also has President Obama crushing Mitt Romney by 14 points, 54 to 40 percent. It's funny, one month ago Thompson was in the lead but now Baldwin is crushing him. Thompson decline in the polls might be due to a few factors:
1. Gay bashing makes you look like a dick:

2. Relying solely on your name recognition doesn't get you any where. David Nir pointed out from the Wisconsin State Journal that Thompson has only made 3 public appearances while Tammy Baldwin has made 24 public appearances:

Lisa Boothe, Thompson's communications director, said the governor has been "actively meeting with voters since the primary." But Boothe only provided three examples. Campaign schedules are not public records and not subject to open records requests.
Baldwin's campaign, meanwhile, cited meetings in more than 24 cities, including Appleton, Sheboygan, Green Bay and Milwaukee.
Pointing to Thompson's few appearances, Baldwin's campaign accused Thompson of hiding from voters.
"Thompson doesn't want to get close to voters because then he would have to explain the fact that he is too close to special interests in Washington," said John Kraus, Baldwin's communications director.
3. David Nir pointed out today, again with the help of the Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel, that Thompson campaign is broke:
Thompson dismissed the results of the Democratic polls but said heavy spending by Baldwin and outside groups since the primary "is going to have an impact." He added that his campaign was "broke" after he defeated three Republicans in Aug. 14 primary, and the red ink forced him to spend considerable time in recent weeks raising money.
And I thought that the tea party had screwed us for having two dogs, Mark Neumann and Eric Hovde, in the race which split the Tea Party vote and handed Thompson a slim victory. But the primary took a toll on his fundraising and he is hurt pretty badly.
Quinnipac also just released their poll and they show the race as tied:
http://www.quinnipiac.edu/...
Wisconsin's U.S. Senate race is a dead heat as Democrat Tammy Baldwin is tied with Republican Tommy Thompson, 47 - 47 percent, compared to a 50 - 44 percent Thompson lead August 23. Independent voters back Thompson 50 - 42 percent.
Quinnipac also confirms Obama's big lead in the Badger State:
Wisconsin
Wisconsin women likely voters back Obama 55 - 42 percent. Romney gets 49 percent of men to Obama's 47 percent. Independent voters back Romney 50 - 44 percent.
Only 7 percent of Obama voters and 6 percent of Romney voters say they might change their mind. The president's support seems stronger as 74 percent of his voters say they "strongly favor" him, compared to 56 percent of Romney voters.
The economy is the most important election issue for 45 percent of Wisconsin voters, while 23 percent name health care; 12 percent cite the budget deficit and 4 percent list national security. The president would do a better job on the economy, 49 percent of voters say, while 46 percent pick Romney.
The president would do a better job on health care, voters say 51 - 45 percent, and do better on Medicare, voters say 50 - 43 percent.
Looks like having Paul Ryan on the ticket isn't really helping Mittens.
