Another Friday has come around; welcome beer lovers and anyone else who wants to join us!
In beer news this week, we have: a shameful waste of beer, a creative and probably satisfying waste of beer, and Oktoberfest. Also I can't resist running some booze news even though it's off topic.
From Wheat Ridge CO we have the shameful waste of beer: a careless driver spilled a whole truckload onto the shoulder of I-70.
From somewhere in FL we have beer wasted justifiably in self-defense as a store clerk chases away a knife-wielding robber by throwing cans of beer at him. Must have been fun pegging the thief!
And from München, it's not about robbing the store, it's about robbing the customers. Check out picture #5 in that collection, showing the classic Oktoberfest pic of a waitress with a double armful of mugs. Check out how much foam is in those mugs. Drinkers are paying the highest prices of the year, and not getting anywhere close to a whole liter for their €9.35 (US $12.00).
The booze news is from Czech Republic, where unscrupulous capitalists don't stop at robbing their customers, but have killed a couple dozen by diluting the product with cheap methanol.
Authorities now say an estimated 20 percent of spirits available in bars and restaurants has been manufactured on the black market, often containing illegal substances and carrying fake labels.
The scandal led to a government ban on all sale or export of liquor over 20% alcohol -- a ban that specifically
excludes home-distilled moonshine slivovitz!
What are you drinking? Hopefully not Czech "vodka". I've got Trader Joe's beer: Josephbrau dunkelweizen and Boatswain IPA.
