I saw a post about a Virginia Republican legislator, Bob Marshall, that ThinkProgress claimed was "easily one of the worst lawmakers in America." It got me thinking about who would be Minnesota's worst legislator. My immediate reaction was to nominate Rep. Steve Drazkowski (R-Mazeppa). Both Marshall and Draz are delusional and have both offered a plethora of mind-bogglingly stupid/crazy bills.
What criteria should such a competition use?
- Crazy - Does the legislator deny obvious reality?
- Hate-filled - Does the person hate any particular group of people? Or just everyone?
- Damage - If the legislator got his way on every bill he/she proposed, how much damage would that do?
- Fear-mongering - All Republicans fear-monger. But is this politician's fear-mongering also moronic and crazy?
- Volume - While s/he may be crazy, does he/she bring it regularly?
Here's what Think Progress said about Marshall:
Virginia Del. Bob Marshall (R) is easily one of the worst lawmakers in America. He is an arch-nullificationist, who has sponsored multiple unconstitutional bills trying to keep federal laws he disagrees with from applying in Virginia. He once claimed that children with disabilities are God’s punishment to women who had abortions. And he routinely pushes arguments motivated by delusional anti-gay beliefs.
So it’s only a little surprising that Marshall has taken on another crusade — arming college professors:
- Less than two months after the University of Virginia strengthened its campus weapons restrictions, a state legislator has introduced a bill that would circumvent the university’s intentions.
The legislation would allow faculty members to carry concealed handguns on college campuses. UVa’s newly adopted weapons regulation prohibits students, faculty and visitors from carrying weapons on university property.
So how does Teh Draz stand up? Very well! MN just might win this competition.
