So, I read the diary by SBucher and was moved by it. So moved, I sent to my parents and in-laws; all four are Republicans, and can be "surly" at times.
Regardless, I just heard back from my mother-in-law.
Her reply after the fold....
Here's what she replied, and I am curious if anyone wants to help me craft a reply back.
Do you really want to know what I think about this? This is typical of the Democratic rant. Yes, Republicans have their rant too. To me, the Democrats try to pit the "common" man against the "rich" man (class warfare) because it has often worked. The Republicans want the ability to make more money. In the US, this is wrong? No. It makes jobs and fosters an economy where anyone who wants to work or develop or succeed can do so. Small business cannot survive if the taxes they have to pay including insurance for employees are too high. I honestly think most Americans, in government or not, have no idea what the word profit means in economics. Profit is what is left after all liabilities are subtracted which includes salaries. "Obscene" profit is good. Do I think salaries are reidiculous now, oh, yes. Nobody is worth what we are paying CEOs or sports figures etc.
For years, the Dems have been the party of big labor. What is the difference in big labor and big business? Not much. Both tend to be rather criminal. Why do I hate the Dems. Labor Unions in the past. Now add lack of border control (both parties) as well as goverment interference. The Supreme Court is a farce and the government takes our tax money and doesn't do what we'd really like them to do with it. Actually, we shouldn't have taxes except for paying what is in the Constitution, but that isn't going to happen. Ron Paul taps into people like your in-laws who have lived overseas and have seen how poorly our pollicies work Embassies are overstaffed and useless. We can send someone to a country when needed and not keep a huge bureaucracy there. Our aid, whether money or goods, often sits on a dock or in some government official's pocket. The UN is not always our friend. I guess the main complaint with our international policies is that we are patsies.
I saw that there are more and more people calling themselves Independents. That's us. But, we still believe that you should have to work for what you get and not rely on the government unless you are disabled. Yes, we get Social Security. Your Dad, probably, like your father-in-law has worked and paid into the system since he was 11 yrs old. For years, he has paid the highest amount for both SS and Medicare. Both parties have raided the "trust" instead of investing it and make money on it so that it could be self-sustaining. I've seen figures here and there. If they had given back to us what we paid in, we could invest it and be really rich.
The reason I do not listen to either party is because they keep saying and doing the same old things every year and every election. Nothing has changed since Will Rogers had his say. I think truly that our whole government is corrupt. Some try to do the right thing, but nothing ever changes. Romney has the business experience to run a country. Very few lawyers do. Gingrich's running is ridiculous, and someone people who have worked with him have said uncomplimentary things about him here and there, but not loudly. He is corrupt. He got kicked out of the government for heaven's sakes.
So, again, this article is the same ol' thing. When the Dems were in control, they ignored the other side of the aisle. When the Reps got a chance, they returned the favor. Do I want a bunch of "Bible thumpers?" NO. But, at least they agree with my view of what government should, and more importantly, shouldn't be.
The Super PACs should be wiped out. I don't believe in PACs period since your father-in-law was treasurer of one, once. People running for office shouldn't be able to take more than a fixed amount from any one person and none from any entitly of more than one person. Don't try to convince me that one party is worse than the other. Just not so. And, yes, both buy elections.
