We couldn't wait to get an appointment for the CFPB, or anywhere else, for that matter. So why wait?
Because now, Richard Cordray, as well as the NLRB appointees, can serve until the end of 2013, reelection provided of course. Not 2012, 2013. Two years to get stuff done.
Wait. How's that?
Let's let TPMDC explain it...
By definition, a recess appointment expires at the end of the next full session of the Senate. If a nominee is recess appointed in the middle of a Senate session, he or she serves through the rest of that year, and through the next session.
The new Senate session started...yesterday. Even though they won't get back from vacation for another 2 weeks. Therefore, Cordray won't serve the full session if he's appointed today. So he serves the rest of the year (til 31 December 2012) and the entirety of the next session (til the end of 2013). And so, for that matter, will the new NLRB board members.
That.
Is.
Awesome.
How awesome? Why, it's like the Senate just got one of these from the President's administration...
The drawback of course is that a future GOP administration will follow right along now that this administration was smart enough to find the way. There is a way to prevent that, though.
NEVER
