Congrats Jackie boy, youre the new chief in town. Maybe my catching up on the West Wing has actually caught up to me, but from where I sit, its time for you grab this White House by the nuts and get physical.
Look at the political landscape. Its 2012 gottdamit, and we got ourselves an election this year. It aint 2011 no more, it aint 2010, or 09, and it sure as hell aint 08. We are past that. This travesty of a Congress just passed a travesty of a payroll tax cut bill, and this pile of crap is at your doorstep. On fire. And it will be for the next few weeks. But your a numbers guy, so you know this is a winner for the economy, and its gotta last. So what do you do?
First of all, whatever Bill Daley told any of these people in the oval office before he left, forget it. Like I said, its 2012. We aren't in the aftermath of the tea party victories anymore where whatever Bill Daley was worth back then...was something I guess. No, we are in the aftermath of OWS, and momentum that the guy in the big seat has tried to harness since the September jobs bill play. The public supports this tax cuts, its the right thing to do, and Republicans are in an untenable position. This is all old news. But its time to make it the news that matters.
Don't back down, don't tremble, don't go against what you know in your heart of hearts is the best thing for a campaign-issue-meets-incredibly-great-idea-for-the-economy there has been in a while. Make this one hurt for the dumbasses across the aisle, you can tell them I said so. Because we both know this one is gonna pass, lest Obama have to campaign on cutting taxes when Republicans just raised them. So make sure you start acting like its reality from day one.
Its an election year, this White House has to get its shit together. No more effin around, there is a long list of goals that the office should be setting and November is most definitely the biggest one as far as I'm concerned.
So lets start acting like we are right, and we will prevail. Gather your staff and tell them that if they are surprised to be there, then they shouldn't be. It's game time. Everything, everything, is done for November. And starting with this payroll tax cut, Mr. Lew, its going to be chock full of politics. But you are a head honcho now, politics IS YOUR LIFE. And this is a political winner. And an economic winner. And something that should be on the top of everyones minds during these life-sucking, let-me-put-on-my-lipstick-before-you-**-me Republican antics for their nominee. These guys are all jokes, and we know it. So let's focus on what we don't know. How this payroll tax cut thing is going to look like when its all over.
It's 2012 and your jumping in homie. Don't screw this up.
