Wednesday I filled up my car at Safeway in Chico and I paid $3.99 a gallon before a road trip down to SF for a couple of days. When I got to SF I was AMAZED that the prices of Gas in SF was $4.73 a gallon at the cheapest place I could find, and Acro station On Divisidero and Oak. I was like, Geez another way the cost of living is lower in Chico! But this morning I went by Safeway again to fill up and here in Chico the gas price is now $4.49 a gallon. 50 cents a gallon in 4 days! I watched the news in SF, there were refinery explosions or anything in Richmond, I didn't here about any new wars in the Middle east. I listened to Democracy now and about the most exciting thing I heard was Syria attacking Turkey. So what gives. Why was gas in this area artificially jacked up 50 cents a gallon in just 5, really 4 days?
So I called my friend Anne who lives in Atlanta, who is paying $3.60 a gallon for gas, (do we REALLY have a dollar a gallon more TAX on Gas in CA?), and she said that she also saw some comments on Facebook of her friends who commented on the gas price being raised 10 cents a gallon over night! I laughed, 10 cents a gallon over night, at this point that would be a gift, it is 50 cents in 3 days!
I listened to the debates, and i heard about the medicare and social security cuts, but this is worse, Car and Gas are pretty essential to our lives. Sure I will cut out all
un-necessary travel. I already walk the mile and a quarter to the Grocery story, and I bike the 2.2 miles into Downtown when I want to go, but on a fixed income 50 cents a gallon more means that money has to come from some other budget item, I am going to have to do without SOMETHING this month to make my next doctors appointment on the 18th if Gas prices don't come down.
So what gives, why the gas hike?
9:33 AM PT: I* found several articles published today in the mainstream press about this, such as http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/...

So I am not alone, but why haven't any of these "refinery issues" made it to the evening news, no fires, nothing to not, just SKY HIGH prices, and no government intervention! and why did ALL the stations do it the same night? I would think that some of them had gas ih the ground cheap still, and what about the independents?
