Today I saw a slew of Mitt Romney adds lamenting the state of the economy, and specifically contending that the unemployment rate is over 8%. Except, that's false. Anybody who has remotely been paying to the news would know that the unemployment rate has now dropped to 7.8%, the lowest level in four years, palpable evidence that Obama has broken the back of the recession and brought about the current upward trajectory of our recovering economy.
Except, Romney is somehow unable to adjust to this new economic reality. His ads still complain of unemployment being above 8%, as though he has nothing else to say, no other argument for his candidacy. And that argument is gone. Now it may be that for a multi-decamillionaire like Mitt Romney, the real economic situation eludes his understanding. His life is just as luxurious, his horses are as well manicured, whether unemployment is 12%, where it was headed when Obama took office, or if it drops to the 4% Obama's leadership is on course to reach. So maybe that's why Romney has trouble with the numbers, trouble pivoting away from a now clearly and absolutely false-message. He simply cannot escape from his bubble of ignorance of the lives of regular Americans.
