Yes, Biden beat Ryan on foreign affairs and defense. Crushed him, actually. Made him look like a dangerous choice for vice president, even. But as devastating that blow was, it was nothing compared to how he crushed him on issues affecting seniors.
Ryan, of course, repeated the same lie about taking $716 billion away from care for seniors and using it to create a death panel, saying "...they put this new "Obamacare" board in charge of cutting Medicare each and every year in ways that will lead to denied care for current seniors."
But rather than listing mind-numbing numbers to refute it - as Obama is prone to do - Biden looked directly into the camera and appealed to seniors, saying:
Any senior out there, ask yourself: Do you have more benefits today? You do. If you're near the doughnut hole, you have $600 more to help your prescription drug costs. You get wellness visits without copays. They wipe all of this out.
And then, moments later, made another appeal directly to the camera:
Who you believe, the AMA? Me? A guy who's fought his whole life for this? Or somebody who had actually put in motion a plan that knowingly cut — added $6,400 a year more to the cost of Medicare?
Granted, I'm not a senior, so I may be completely misreading Biden's effectiveness on delivering this message. I am looking forward to the next poll in Florida, though.
