Prior to the vice presidential debate, a woman in totally awesome sunglasses interrupted a Chris Matthews interview with an Obama supporter by yelling, "Communist!"
Matthews finished his first interview and approached the woman. As you might suspect, hilarity ensued:
Matthews: What did you mean by that?
Romney Supporter: All you have to do is study it out. Just study it out and you'll see. You haven't done your homework, buddy.
Matthews: What do I need to study?
Romney Supporter: He's a communist. And those of us who are not voting for him know it.
Matthews: And what do you mean by communist?
Romney Supporter: You don't know?
Matthews: Just tell me. Help me out here. I want to know what you mean.
Romney Supporter: Oh I know what I mean.
Matthews: Well help us out. You're on national television.
Romney Supporter: I know I'm on national television.
Matthews: Well tell me what you mean when you just accused the guy of being a communist.
Romney Supporter: You just study it out.
Matthews: Is he an American?
Romney Supporter: No.
Matthews: What is he? What country's he from?
Romney Supporter: Just because he was born here doesn't mean he thinks like us. He's a communist, buddy.
Matthews: Ok, thank you.
Chris Matthews gave this woman just enough rope to hang herself, as she proudly proclaimed that the President of the United States is some really scary government thing that she clearly doesn't understand in the first place.
This exchange is especially interesting considering what we heard out of Congresscritter Paul Ryan last night. Ryan noted on multiple occasions that "when you don't have the record to run on, you have to scare voters into running away from the other candidate."
This is classic Republican projection. It's also highly curious coming from the party that has spent the last four years convincing people that Obama is a Muslim, Socialist, Marxist, Communist, gun-hating, gay-loving African anti-colonialist intent on destroying America, the Catholic Church, and traditional family values.
Watch as a foolish person uses 30 seconds of foolish fame to forever mark her place among the most ignorant people to ever live:
1:48 PM PT: UPDATE: Commenter Kalil has augmented this with an excellent bit of analysis. As Kalil points out, use of the phrase "study it out" is not some random bit of English dialect. It's a phrase linked to many religious groups. Namely, it is mentioned in the LDS Doctrines and Covenant.
From Khalil:
"Study it out" is an odd turn of phrase, one I'd never heard before.
So... Google. Turns out, it's probably a reference to the following passage in the LDS Doctrines and Covenant, 9:8:
But, behold, I say unto you, that you must study it out in your mind; then you must ask me if it be right, and if it is right I will cause that your bosom shall burn within you; therefore, you shall feel that it is right.
In other words, she knows Obama is a communist because she feels it in her heart. Yay for charismatic religion...
