There's a new rumor floating around the wingnut set of tubes--a new twist on the "Obama's a Mooslim" canard. WorldNutDaily's Jerome Corsi is claiming that for many years, the president has worn a ring that has the Islamic statement of faith inscribed on it.
As a student at Harvard Law School, then-bachelor Barack Obama’s practice of wearing a gold band on his wedding-ring finger puzzled his colleagues.
Now, newly published photographs of Obama from the 1980s show that the ring Obama wore on his wedding-ring finger as an unmarried student is the same ring Michelle Robinson put on his finger at the couple’s wedding ceremony in 1992.
Moreover, according to Arabic-language and Islamic experts, the ring Obama has been wearing for more than 30 years is adorned with the first part of the Islamic declaration of faith, the Shahada: “There is no god except Allah.”
The fact Corsi is making this claim is reason enough to take this with a grain of salt. But yet another reason is the initial source for this rumor--Joel Gilbert. For those who don't know, Gilbert is the guy behind the scurrilous movie "Dreams from My Real Father," which claims that Obama's real father is labor activist and Communist organizer Frank Marshall Davis. Makes you wonder if Corsi has secretly left the birther camp, since if Obama is Davis' son, it would mean that there was no question he was born in the United States. Then again, wingnut logic is an oxymoron.
