Today's Gallup tracking poll remains at Romney 49 Obama 47 (LV) and Obama 48 Romney 46 (RV).
Why is that good news (and not for John McCain)?
The Gallup daily tracking poll is a seven day rolling average. Today's result covers Monday, October 8 through Sunday, October 14. One day dropped off since yesterday... Sunday, October 7.
Sunday, October 7 was a huge Obama day (estimated to be about Obama 58 Romney 37); it was the day Obama wiped out Romney's post-debate bounce and briefly retook the lead.
With a day that good dropping off, one might have expected that Romney would bounce again, at least for a day. It didn't happen. Which means that recent polling days have been good.
Of course, there is also the issue that Gallup's LV screen doesn't have a good record. In 2008, it's RV final poll was closer to the mark that it's LV final poll.
