A lot of people are having fun making jokes about Romney's odd "binders full of women" phrase, but I think we may be missing a larger story here that could be devastating for Romney.
My sister, who is entirely apolitical and has no desire to get into political discussions, made a rare Facebook political post about this comment. She did not watch the debate, but apparently she saw the "binders full of women" comment trending and wanted to find out what it was about.
At first she was willing to give Romney the benefit of the doubt and conclude that it was really just a poor choice of words in what might be a larger, on point comment. But, as she reviewed the tape and received input from some fellow FB friends, she became increasingly livid about the what Romney said.
She wasn't livid about the "binders full of women" phrase. She was livid because of the suggestion by Romney that it is just so "gosh darned" difficult to find qualified women when there are so many more qualified men around. The idea that Romney needed his people to exert a special effort to put together these "binders full of women" just incensed her.
Maybe it's because she is a top level manager in the business she is in. Maybe it's because she's a mother. But whatever the reason, Romney's comment really struck a nerve with her. She had already decided to vote against Romney even before this, but this really seems to have sealed the deal for her.
And she's a registered Republican.
