Old West Wing fans might remember the episode where, through a comical combination of ego and confusion, Josh ends up creating the President's secret plan to fight inflation. This reminds me so much of Mitt Romney's secret plan to pay for his tax cuts.
It really shouldn't be okay to say you have a plan when you don't.
You shouldn't be able to just make stuff up -- totally unrealistic stuff -- and call it a plan.
And for Pete's sake, you can't say you have a plan that you are unwilling to share with the American people.
This much, above, is clear to normal thinking people like you, dear reader. But for our right leaning friends (and even independents, like the CNN debate focus group) simpler means of making a point are required.
I found success this morning in a discussion with a right wing coworker when I asked her if it was okay for a candidate for President to keep secrets from the American people. No, she said, that's downright unAmerican.
So what do you think of Mitt's secret plan to balance hs tax cuts? Is it right that he's keeping his plans a secret from you? [No, it's not right, she said].
No American likes politicians keeping plans secret from them. Until Romney comes out with specifics on his tax plan, we need to grow the movement to call it Romney's #SecretPlan. Anyone who knows anyone in print or broadcast media needs to feed this narrative. Romney surrogates need to be asked "When will Governor Romney reveal specifics of his secret tax plan".
The truth of the matter is that Romney has no plan. But the public needs to shame him off of his current non disclosure posture. If calling it a #SecretPlan helps move the dial, so be it.
