Another ingorant Republican has weighed in on the abortion controversy. I'm giving him the benefit of a doubt here in calling him ignorant, but I have a hard time believing that anyone actually believes medical science has progressed this far.
Illinois Republican Congressman Joseph Walsh debatedTammy Duckworth last night. A wide range of topics were covered, but the money quote, to my mind, is the following, made after the debate
Walsh said he was against abortion “without exception,” including rape, incest and in cases in which the life or health of the mother was in jeopardy.
Asked by reporters after the debate if he was saying that it’s never medically necessary to conduct an abortion to save the life of a mother, Walsh responded, “Absolutely.”
“With modern technology and science, you can't find one instance,” he said. “... There is no such exception as life of the mother, and as far as health of the mother, same thing.”
Really? Does he really not know that women still die in childbirth? Does he not know that women still die from complications of pregnancy? Under what rock has he been hiding? Did he bother to talk to a medical doctor before making this kind of baseless statement?
I hope Tammy plasters this all over her ads.
