I had an amazing thing happen tonight that is on top of another amazing thing that happened.
I recently finished and released my ebook:"Is America Stupid? Legitimate Rape, an Illegitimate President, and the Politics of Nonsense." The book has several references to Occupy Wall St. Here's the amazing part: I went down to Occupy Sacramento around 2 months ago- my first protest rally in over a decade. As I arrived a young woman was on the steps of the capital reading Chaplin's speech from the end of The Great Dictator. This is one of my 3 favorite films. It's also my 12 year old daughter's favorite. It's the only thing we agree on, of course. (I wrote a screenplay and the main character is Joey Chaplin and at the end he gives a similar speech about not throwing mentally handicapped kids into institutions.)Anyway, I thought I was dreaming as I was listening to this young woman recite the speech. And now, earlier tonight,I received a Facebook posting from Occupy Wall St. with a special message linking to Chaplin's speech. I doubt if Occupy Wall St. and Occupy Sacramento have the same influences or programming, but maybe they do. Anyway, check out the speech:
