Scientific consensus says climate change is happening and is a serious threat. Regardless, House Republicans voted unanimously to overturn EPA's scientific endangerment finding with bill H.R. 910. During the bill's floor debate, Rep. Henry Waxman (a Democrat) offered an amendment to affirm “climate change is occurring, is caused largely by human activities, and poses significant risks for public health and welfare"; all 23 Republican members of The Committee on Science, Space & Technology voted to reject this scientific finding.
Was the vote due to party politics or ignorance? Just how unscientific are the Republican decision-making members of The Committee on Science, Space & Technology? Let's play & find out! See if you can match the committee members with their comments in defiance of science!

THE QUOTES:
1)
"Scientists all over this world say that the idea of human-induced global climate change is one of the greatest hoaxes perpetrated out of the scientific community. It is a hoax. There is no scientific consensus."
2) "The greatest impact on our climate clearly is the sun, and we have very little impact on the sun and how much energy and temperature the sun is sending to the earth. We have seen clearly over thousands of years that at different times more energy has come through and different times less energy has come through, and that variation has impacted climate change. Over the thousands of years that’s been recorded we’ve had both colder times and warmer times. It happens to be that we’ve recently come out of a warmer time and now actually we’re headed in to a little bit of a colder time, the impact of the sun is much different than impact that we could have had."
3) "I mean, we just went from winter to spring. In [my state] when we go from winter to spring, that’s a good climate change. I don’t want to stop that climate change you know. Who in the world want to put politicians in charge of the weather anyways?"
4) "We have higher levels of carbon dioxide. That means that plant life grows better, because it is an essential gas for all forms of plant life. Does that mean I want more of it? I don't know about the adverse effects of carbon dioxide on human beings."
5) "What the science says is that temperatures peaked out globally in 1998. So we’ve gone for 10 plus years where the temperatures have gone down." "I personally believe that the solar flares are more responsible for climatic cycles than anything that human beings do."
6) "We now know that prominent scientists were so determined to advance the idea of human-made global warming that they worked together to hide contradictory temperature data."
7) "I am encouraging [us] to reduce funding for climate change research, which undercuts one of NASA's primary and most important objectives of human spaceflight."
8) "I'm really more fearful of freezing [than global warming]. And I don't have any science to prove that. But we have a lot of science that tells us they're not basing [climate change] on real scientific facts."
9) "Our planet has warmed and cooled since the beginning of time." [In response to the question 'To what extent, if any, does global warming pose a threat to lives, property and the economy?']
10) "Is there some thought being given to... clearing of rainforests in order for some countries to eliminate that production of greenhouse gases?"
11) "The data does not support the premise that carbon dioxide emissions are playing a significant role in the world temperature variations. The temperature of the Earth has been changing over centuries with warmer and colder periods throughout history."
12) Co-sponsored H.R. 954: “Whereas recent events have uncovered extensive evidence from the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia in England (in this resolution referred to as the ‘CRU’) which involved many researchers across the globe discussing the destruction, altering, and hiding of data that did not support global warming claims.”
13) "Back when I was graduating from high school I remember the 'great global cooling'. Is this 'great global cooling' similar to the great global warming that is going on today?"
14) "Whereas recent events have uncovered extensive evidence from the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia in England (in this resolution referred to as the ‘CRU’) which involved many researchers across the globe discussing the destruction, altering, and hiding of data that did not support global warming claims."
15) "What we have here is a case of formulating scientific findings that back up policy, instead of creating policy that is backed up by legitimate science. Proponents of man-made global warming in Congress will use every opportunity they have to invite witnesses to testify before Congress who only share their point of view. We now have clear evidence of what we knew all along, that there are perhaps thousands of scientists who don’t share these views, and sadly have been the subject of concerted efforts to discourage and suppress their findings from publication."
16) "...We need to see what’s happening and if there’s something we need to do, or whether we just need to say that this is a change in the weather and it’s going to shift back."

THANKS FOR PLAYING! Did you see a congressman listed from your state?
Where does Mitt Romney stand on healing the planet from climate change? He's confused, too!
