In his famous remarks about the 47% of Americans who he thinks "will vote for the president no matter what", Mitt Romney talks about people who thinks are dependent on government, claiming, " I'll never convince them that they should take personal responsibility and care for for their lives."
The very simple matter is that Romney and his ilk think that many people are parasites.
This is how Republicans think:
- The 47% suck money from hard-working Americans.
- The "relationship" only benefits the 47%.
- The property and wealth of the Romneyite class become damaged.
- The 47% control the rest of America.
- The 47% don't give anything "back".
Romneyite Republicans see "entitlements" as the method by which the 47% benefit at the expense of everyone else. They see these people as almost of subhuman, separate species, which allows them mentally be OK with treating the 47% different from other people. They don't feel a need to treat you as an equal. They don't think they need to be as honest with you.
Romney and his fellow Republicans see the welfare state as a resource-stealing monster that has latched onto the underbelly of America. This is their worldview. This is how they think. It explains what they believe and why they do things the way they do.
