Post debate, there is a flurry of comments by the online communities to reinforce and confirm their preferred outcome. Not too long ago, a poster reminded the DKos community that we are a large liberal island in a sea of Rethuggery in a post titled Daily Kos: The Fight for Yahoo and I think s/he made an important point, namely that the commentary in places like Yahoo are more influential than we may think. Most of the comments following stories about the debate on Yahoo and the major news channels are conservative, bigoted and full of misinformation, yet these are the venues that many low information voters use to formulate and articulate their opinions.
Please take a few minutes today to push back and correct some of the misinformation and talking points out there. As you will note, many of the posts are very similar using the same talking points, memes and themes, making a thinking person wonder if perhaps they are the work of a coordinated group of posters trying to influence the online world of news and social media. Nevertheless, many low information voters do read them and they are more influential than we might like to think. I would prefer to normatize [Is that even a real word?] a more accurate analysis of facts and liberal opinion for the person who is less engaged in politics.
TheDuckManCometh had some good advice on posting without engaging. It is worth reading and taking action. Please help change the conversations.
