I watched last night's debate, along with hundreds of thousands of people, of all stripes and yes, Romney lied through his teeth and appeared to have a much better debate. President Obama didn't, but big fucking deal.
It sickens me to read about the disappointment shared by others on this site. I am a disabled Viet Nam Veteran and in 45 years of being a proud Democrat, I have walked thousands of miles, sometimes until I couldn't walk anymore, made hundreds of thousands of phone calls, knocked on thousands of doors, bitten by too many dogs to remember, had so many cups of coffee and hot chocolate offered by well wishers and donated thousands of dollars. Not once did I put my crutches away and give up, even though anyone else may have done so.
Yes, our President didn't have a good night and yes, Romney came across better. Big fucking deal. You see, my passion burns inside me. A gaffe here, a misstep there, a poor debate, a less than sterling speech is part of the process. Never, ever will I lose faith in President Obama. I will continue to do what I have done over the last 45 years, even while working on my 10th set of crutches.
I can understand one's disappointment, I would much rather have witnessed a stellar performance, a debate where our President wins the night and "lives" up to whatever one wants him to be. The future of our country is at stake and imagine what the makeup of our legislative bodies and the damage that can be done by them if we don't triumph in November.
To those loyal and fiery supporters, I say, keep up the great work you're doing and always keep in mind that votes on election day is what matters, all else is just bullshit. And to those that are feeling sorry for themselves because of last night's debate, go pick up a couple of Romney/Ryan signs, put them on your lawn and make calls for the guy that won last night. Vote for the guy that was better last night, because God knows, whoever won the debate must be the better candidate.
Better yet, get over it. Let's put this away on election day and enjoy the fruits of all of our labor. That elation would be tons better than your disappointment this morning. And I can put my campaign crutches away for another year, sit down with a huge smile and enjoy the next 4 years with President Obama.
