I have read all of the diaries about the "bounce" from the debates. Usually, this late after a debate, the conversation has turned to the Vice-Presidential debate, or, at least in this case, the unemployment numbers. I have noticed, however, that is not the case. The media's mad pursuit of a horserace with a ratings and advertisement frenzy has abysmally failed.
The Sunday morning talk shows were inundated with debate talk, how Romney's supporters are more enthusiastic, how Romney drew "thousands" in his latest rally, how Romney is showing his "softer side". I heard a short segment on the Vice-Presidential debates, putting an enormous amount of pressure on Joe Biden to "make up" for Obama's perceived failure.
The conversations discussing Romney's lies were few and far between. I can remember a time when the fact checkers were on camera immediately after the debate to debunk any unthruth spewed by a candidate. It was like the media, MSNBC included, couldn't wait to explode on President Obama. The news the previous day was flooded with an old tape of the "angry black Obama", so the media was set up to give him the label anew if he had even given the impression of losing his temper. It was a catch-22. Obama was damned if he did, and damned if he didn't. I truly believe he knew he was boxed in the day the 2007 tape resurfaced, and faced the debate knowing that he had no clue what Romney's policies were going to be. How do you debate a sociopath? I mean, really?
All that being said, I think that the media, seeing the poll numbers, have realized that few bought into their squatting ovations for Romney. Most saw an angry, edgy, rude, obnoxious liar who has no respect for anyone. I'm of an opinion to just turn off the television and watch c-span for the debates and vote. The way the media is insulting my intelligence is just over the cliff.
