I have always wondered what my children would be able to contribute to the world. Like any parent, I hoped they might cure cancer, but feared they would end up living in my basement. So far, since they are in college, I don't know which way it will go. But they have produced something positive so far--they voted in swing states!
This is the first presidential election for both of them, and while I wish I could claim that their attending college in those two states was an ingenious ploy on my part to add to the vote totals of President Obama, I cannot say that is so. But when they did matriculate, the first thing I had them both do was register to vote there; we live in GA, and while I voted (early) for President Obama, it was with the knowledge that my GA brethren will be knocking the state out for Romney. I didn't want them to have to suffer what I did the first time I voted for president (Mondale--sigh). I wanted them to feel good about voting, and I wanted them to vote where it would count. I know, I know, my vote "counts," but let's be real here and understand the Electoral College.
One of them voted absentee ballot (she is overseas, and we actually carried her ballot, in the sealed, stamped envelope, back from Europe). The other voted early today, and called to say how excited she was. I have every confidence in their selection, and I am certain that they picked the winner.
GOTV!
