My friend coordinating GOTV in a battleground state called me again today.
I told her about my diary from the other night, and the phonebanking we did in Oakland yesterday.
She said, "Great, but look, I don't have time for that."
"What I need to you to do is to write a diary that tells people in clear terms the single greatest need this campaign has right now..."
And here it is.
If you live in or near a battleground presidential state, or a state with a battleground Senate race, you are desperately needed for GOTV in state.
The hurricane threw off some well-laid plans, and as Karl Rove noted, volunteer turnout and intensity for Democrats is DOWN this year compared to 2008.
And that part of Rove's BS is true.
It's not enough to call from out of state, though that's good and better than sitting at home. What's needed is people at GOTV events in battleground states who are local on the ground, committed and working to win.
If you are in or near Ohio. Or Pennsylvania. Or Virginia. Or Florida. Or Iowa. Or Colorado. Or Nevada. Or Wisconsin.
Now's the time to double down and drag someone else with you to a GOTV EVENT.
I know I sound like a broken record...but that's because I really am.
I was here in 2003/4 when we had every reason in the world to kick GWB out of office and we failed.
The reasons we won in 2006 and 2008 was not because of polling or prognosticating...it was because of intensity in our ground game and seizing the advantage.
And when we LOST in 2010...it was exactly the opposite.
My friend is very busy turning out the vote in her battleground assignment.
She has no reason to call me just to chat.
If you are in or near a battleground state.
You are needed for GOTV.
And, yes, by that I mean YOU, not someone else who is going to pull the weight for you us.
We need bodies on the ground in the battlegrounds. If you can, and are able, but are a little scared or have reservations, join me in the comments, and I'll walk you through it...
