When we arrived at Jodie's house about 6:30 PM on D18 (otherwise known as Thanksgiving Day), the three occupiers there claimed to have already "stuffed themselves". So we turned around and took the turkey and apple pie home left the turkey in the fridge and put the pie out on the counter just in case someone wanted it.
Today I got word that the pie "was a big hit." In fact many can vouch for the claim that no Morgan Stanley executive had quite as good apple pie for Thanksgiving as did those #DefendJodie peeps, members of the Occupy Oakland Foreclosure Defense Group and allies on 24-hour guard.
I also received word that we made it out of the blogs and into the main stream media! The Oakland Tribune (not to be confused with the real deal, the Occupied Oakland Tribune) published an article about Jodie Randolph and the defense of her house by Occupy Oakland.
Now you have to understand that my immediate reaction to hearing about any article about Occupy Oakland in the local press is "Ruh roh! Here comes another hit piece filled with lies and distortions." Surprisingly and to the author's credit, this one was an exception.
Go below the squiggle and keep reading, or if you're a first time #defendjodie series visitor you can go to the bottom for links to Jodie's saga thus far.
The article started out well...
They may have changed the locks and warned her she would be evicted, but bank officials are still facing a fight from Jodie Randolph, who has enlisted the help of activists from Occupy Oakland in a bid to save her home even as she battles cancer.
Provided a strong supporting quote...
"Our government is just wrecking people like Jodie Randolph," said Oakland resident Mindy Stone, who has been visiting the house on-and-off since the action started. "They are allowing a woman to be kicked out who rightfully deserves to be in this house. She has made every effort to reasonably resolve this situation."
Gave a fair look at Morgan Stanley's take (or lack thereof)...
A Morgan Stanley representative was not immediately available for comment on Randolph's case. But during an Occupy Oakland demonstration Nov. 5 at the company's Oakland office, Randolph said she met with a representative who told her he wanted to try and find a solution.
And ended with the piece de resistance!
Jodie Randolph said... "I just hope that we can have a dialogue that will come to an amicable agreement. After all, what do they want with my home?"
After all, what DO they want with Jodie's home?
