This is not the summer of 2011 with the debt ceiling fight and Mr. Boehner is going to learn a very hard lesson. None of his bullshit extortion tricks are going to work. President Obama won and he is not going to start his second term by letting Boehner extort America.
Today:
White House press secretary Jay Carney responded to Speaker John A. Boehner’s (R-Ohio) demand that any increase in the debt ceiling as part of a ”fiscal cliff” deal be matched by equivalent cuts in spending.
“Asking that a political price be paid in order for Congress to do its job to ensure that the United States of America pays its bills and does not default for the first time in its history is deeply irresponsible,” Carney said in Thursday’s press briefing.
“It was deeply irresponsible in the summer of 2011 and it would be deeply irresponsible to see that approach taken again. The president expects Congress to do its job.”
WaPo: "White House spokesman: Boehner ‘deeply irresponsible’"
It's time to fight and time to win, time to end the extortion games. Over the bunny slope. And let the Republican House pay the price as taxes are withheld in paychecks in January for the bottom 98%.
The President has the Innauguration Speech and State of the Union in which he has a bully pulpit in which to excortiate the Republicans and Mr. Boehner. It's time Dems make Boehner the face of Republican obstruction to any recovery and Republican hatred of the middle class and those who seek to join the middle class. After Mr. 47% got his ass kicked by President Obama (and the American people), it's time for Boehner to face their wrath.
Irresponsible is just the beginning. Boehner's going to wish he were somewhere and someone else when President Obama is done kicking his sorry ass.
Update I: Remember, many people understand now that this is all about protecting the Top 2%'s tax cuts and screwing people on Medicare. Romney lost. So when Boehner tries to default America, people will know and when they pay extra in their withholding, they will know who to blame and why it is happening.
The Rs have no real leverage and they are flailing around trying to pretend that they do.
To paraphrase Clint Eastwood in a right wing movie: "Mr. Boehner, Go ahead and make my day!"
Or like President Obama said to Mr. 47%: "Proceed, Mr. Boehner."
