Will Femia has pointed out that Steve Benen of The Maddow Blog has had two posts on the subject of a report issued by the Congressional Research Service regarding the efficacy of Republican economic policy, specifically supply-side economics. Benen says "the CRS found, the trickle-down model appears to be 'associated with the increasing concentration of income at the top.'"
You probably haven't heard of this report however because it was withdrawn due the the "concerns" of Senate Republicans, among them Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell. Senator Chuck Schumer said, "This has hues of a banana republic. . . .."
So concern trolls stalk the halls of Congress as much as they surf the internet with the ultimate goal, it would seem, of solidifying and cementing a new plutocracy in place to rule over those of us whose personal wealth demonstrates our unworthiness to lead.
While voter suppression is front and center on Daily Kos every day, I think it is important to remember that suppression of information as well as the welter of conflicting information may cause citizens to feel that their vote isn't important.
But this election could be democracy's last stand, if big money can buy the reins of power leaving us empty handed and powerless. Our 24/7 news cycle hasn't made us more informed. It has mainlined propaganda into our national bloodstream. More than one diary hear at Daily Kos have told stories of how friends and loved-ones have been deluded by what passes for journalism on Fox and often CNN. And the rest of the mainstream media is little better, focusing on false "controversies" rather than facts. Indeed politicians have been hesitant, at least at first, to use the words "climate change" in connection with the formerly unusual storms that have ravaged the East Coast lately. New York Governor Andrew Cuomo haltingly called "climate change" a political term early in the Sandy disaster before coming out more forcefully regarding changing weather patterns. This politicization of the term was bought and paid for by private funds with economic interests in business as usual rather than developing new energy solutions.
You don't have to rec this diary. I'd be more than happy to have someone with more skill diary this issue. I just think that voters need to be aware of how they are being led like little children by big money to conclusions that will negatively affect their children into a plutocracy from which we may not emerge. Only when armed with information the plutocrats don't want them to see, is it possible for voters to make choices in the voting booth that will give our democracy a chance.
4:29 pm. EDT: Community Spotlight! Wow. Thank you, I really wasn't expecting this. Troubadour wrote a diary saying that, win or lose, we must counter right wing propaganda which is along the same lines as mine.
The subject of the Congressional Research Service report was posted twice by Steve Benen and then highlighted by Will Femia, but that's about the only place I've seen it. Sen. Schumer is right, such suppression does have hues of a banana republic.
