I was watching Alex Wagner on MSNBC, where she showed highlights of Romney campaigning in Colorado. As I watch, one thing particularly stood out to me-Ann Romney.
She was introducing her husband, and she looked ragged, worn, and virtually in tears. She was trying her best to pump up Mitt, and she seemed to be having a really hard time doing it.
Here's what was even worse. You know how when a candidate's wife introduces them, they always thank them, hug them, ask the crowd to give her some applause, anything? Well, Mitt was having none of that. He grabbed the mic from his wife and just started yapping. For the first time since the beginning of this campaign, I actually felt sorry for Ann Romney. Her husband is a real douchebag.
After showing the clip, Alex's panel noticed what they described as a "very emotional" Ann Romney. All this time, I thought she was incapable of showing any emotion besides indignation, snobbery, and anger. I think I know what the problem might be.
That moment, that moment that Ann Romney took the microphone today in Colorado, they discovered something. They discovered the stuff of their worst nightmares, the thing that challenges everything they ever believed about themselves, who they are, their superiority, their privilege, their entitlement, their turn.
They just realized that they really are, indeed, going to lose.
UPDATE:
Ann tries to explain it away:
