Amazing! What my wife and I saw here WAS America. People of every race, ethnicity, age; grandmas and toddlers, veterans and tie-dyed, LGBT for Obama shirts, the handicapped. The crowd waited in lines winding around 7 blocks for hours outside in the sun. Everyone was laughing and friendly to strangers around them, cars drove by honking with thumbs up and shouts of "four more years!". No one cut in line, walking past all those already waiting all the way to the back of the line. Broward County Sheriff said 23,000 went through front gate security.
The atmosphere was electric with anticipation. First we had various assorted local politicians and heads of Broward county Obama organizers. Next Charlie Crist spoke, Debbie Wasserman-Schultz, hell, even rapper Pitbull hit the podium. Obama came on to thunderous applause, his voice noticeably hoarse from all the rallies. His speech covered the inclusive nature of our movement. He spoke of the great principles Democrats believe in and fight for. My wife and I were so filled with the joy of seeing Barack finally, and the pride we feel to have him as our president. This is truly a special man, and a momentous moment.
He spoke for 30 minutes, fired up the crowd, then got down in the front rows to shake hands. Then woosh!, off for Cincinnati.
