Most of the information that I talk about in this diary is already collected by both the State and Federal Governments, no reason we can't put it to use for this purpose either.
Finally the Election season has ended for 2 years, and win or lose for Team Blue we should be looking toward Mid-Terms and a way to make it easier for people across this country to
"VOTE" and I think I have a way to do it. Most States Motor Vehicle Divisions require a
fingerprint to get an ID or Drivers License (happening in Colorado since the 1990's). So why don't we use that database to identify people wanting to vote? Look at it this way, the fingerprint does not change and the database is kept up to date except for ones death, which can be cross-checked with Vital Records (now already computerized). With vital records being
computerized around the country this makes it easier to track births and deaths, hence also making it easier to get people registered to vote even before they turn 18
(most teens get a drivers license at 16). The only requirement of a person would be to keep their information up to date, and that is already law in most states. The state is already collecting this for identifying people at the time they get a license and putting it to use for a greater purpose would also be cost efficient. Now most people will ask about those that can’t vote do to
immigration status, but that can be worked out too since those records are also computerized. I guess what I’m saying is that with computers in our lives for just about everything, we can make them work for us and register everyone via computer as of the persons
18th birthday, and as long as their information is kept up to date (as required by law), then come election time mail out ballots according to ones address allowing all to take part and allowing them to
choose to take part in our elections, plus the ballots can be returned by mail, or cities can choose to place
drop-boxes around the city, and just have them (
the ballots) retrieved on a daily bases starting about 3 or 4 weeks before the election up until election day. Also we would need to have some polls open on election day for those that wish to vote via the polls, but the beauty of this would be that most people would have their ballots prior to election day, and we
could eliminate the long lines and people would not have an excuse not to vote, except they didn’t want to. So until we get voting via the internet in a secure way,
we have got to make it harder for those that want to suppress the vote and make it easier for all to vote.
Please feel free to give feedback on this idea because I’m not the smartest person in the world and my ideas always seem to have some bugs that would need to be worked out, but I believe that we at lease need a starting point.
