Good morning! Good morning!
Still have not come down off the feeling of victory last night! Though I will be sad that Michelle Bachmann and Eric Cantor are still free to cast their reign of terror I will celebrate upgrading the Senate!! Congratulations Senator elect Elizabeth Warren!
I traveled over to Redstate since I had heard a bit of moaning and growning coming from their side. Thinking to myself - I wonder what type of soul searching are they trying to do over there? My mouse flew over to their front page an my eyes beheld:
To the Extent that Conservatism Was on the Ballot, It Was Not Defeated
by Daniel Horowitz (Diary)
Really conservatives? Do you REALLY want to start your soul searching introspection with saying that the philosophical ideas that you hold dear did not fail?
Let me guess..It was the "person" or people" that failed conservationism?
Our detractors within the party will claim that it wasn’t Romney’s fault. He lost due to the detested conservatives in the House. They will argue that as long as the Republican Party….remains a Republican Party, we can no longer win national elections. There’s one problem, though. It is precisely that “detested” House majority that did the best last night. Republicans will, more or less, hold onto their solid majority in the House. Additionally, they added a number of new conservatives like Tom Massie, Keith Rothfus, Andy Barr, Mark Meadows, Kerry Bentivolio, Tom Cotton, Matt Salmon, Kevin Cramer, and Ron DeSantis. It’s the House where we will stop Obama’s agenda, and these additions will bolster our ranks.
Are you even serious? The chasm in the Senate has grown even wider and we have retired some of the most insane tea party Republicans from the map. Your party actually got slightly more liberal. Your soul searching should be about how the house can work together to incorporate some conservative ideas into the agenda that are better then poison pills. You should be offering advice on how to expand into growing demographics in America.
Moderating our stance on one or two issues will not fundamentally alter the calculus of the youth vote. If they are inexorably against us because of social issues, that same culture that drives them to the dark side of morals will entrench them into an incorrigible sense of entitlement and dependency.
At some point, we must figure out that if we are destined to confront an unfavorable demographic trend, we as way as well stand on principle and for bold colors in the hopes of changing minds and hearts.
So there you have it. The advice is not to attempt to be more socially acceptable to the younger generations. We just had citizens civil rights for marriage equality affirmed on the ballot in two more states and medical marijuana is now legalized in two more.
So civil rights and smoking pot drive people to the dark side of morals and therefor we must continue to do the exact some thing we were doing in the House before.
Obstruct.
What the hell does "Bold colors in hopes of changing minds and hearts." even mean? Sounds like one of those silly platitudes you offer the contestant of a high school prom who didn't win Prom queen. It is meaningless. You need to be having some real soul searching about the nature of conservative policies over there. It is not a culture of dependency that we have. It is a culture of shared sacrifice that bands together to life all of us up. It is not perfect and we need your help in doing it.
Do you think you will achieve victory in doubling down on hate? The southern strategy is done. You can no loner win the white house with your current electoral path. Filibuster reform in the Senate is a REAL thing now and that means there might be a ton of bills going forward to the presidents desk. Do you really want the climate of the next to years to be obstruction?
You're gonna have to realize that Climate Change is real and we need your help on it in the House. You're gonna have to realize that yes
Meanwhile, we have a heck of a fight on our hands in Congress with the lame duck session. Personally, I will not rest until we have a solid conservative House that offers the American people a bold contrast from the Obama agenda. We have no other choice. Remember that most of these fights coming up – in fact, all of them – pertain to fiscal issues, not social issues. So if we were to take the advice of Republican moderates, we would have to abjure our entire ideology in order to pick up those growing demographics. And at that point, what is the purpose of seeking power, if we must stand for growing government and increasing taxes on those who already pay 37% of taxes in order to with the youth vote?
yes - taxes must go up. We need a progressive Capital gains tax. We need to roll back oil subsidies. We need to invest in infrastructure and modernizes our buildings cause the weather ain't getting any less nasty.
We need your help though. So please..stop with the doubling down on batshit crazy and obstruction. There is no path to victory along those lines. If you continue down this path and we waste even more time on cultural issues and the war on workers, women, and immigrants then the next two years will be very painful.
I want you to take a minute and remember 2006. Do you want 2006 to happen over again and then have a steeper climb up next time because of changing demographics?
Conservative ideas have failed and conservative polices have not worked. Tax cuts for the rich do not spur wealth to come trickling down from the heavens. Come to the center again. We miss you and we need you to grow up.
