I am Mitt Romney's key demographic...white, in my 40's, upper middle class. But there is one key demographic I am not...angry. Quite the opposite I am overjoyed for Barack Obama and for our country. I am not here to feel sorry or apologize for whatever privilege I had and I happy that the white male oligarchy is being swept away...because it isn't...yet.
No, this is not about coalitions of African Americans and Women and Hispanics versus white males. This is about me, my own feelings about what is important. It is about how I feel empowered, and realize that my life is not improved....
if someone cannot afford health insurance;
if a woman cannot make safe health choices for herself;
if a member of our armed services must hide their true lives because of bigotry;
if a woman gets paid 77 cents for the same work;
if young folks who have lived their whole lives in this country are forced out by hate;
if two people who love each other can be denied the rights and privileges of marriage for no good reason;
if anybody is marginalized because they do not have the means to have their voices heard and their vote counted.
I am a happy white guy, not because I am better for having Barack Obama elected, but because WE are better off for having elected Barack Obama.
