Reports are leaking out of Israel regarding Netanyahu's behavior towards the US since 2010 that could endanger his re-election bid in January. The Israeli left is chanting: "4 more years, 3 more months!" following Obama's historic victory.
A former Israeli prime minister who could challenge Mr. Netanyahu in coming elections, Ehud Olmert, criticized what he called his rival’s failed attempt to interfere in the United States’ election as “a significant breach of the basic rules governing ties between nations.”
And then there's this:
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was not planning to launch an all-out attack on Iran in 2010, before he was blocked by his national security chiefs, as has recently been reported in Israel. Rather, Netanyahu, together with Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak, was intending to provoke an attack that would potentially trigger a chain of events that would draw the United States towards confrontation with Iran, Yossi Melman reports on the front page:
The truth is that Netanyahu and Barak did not order the military to plan a direct, all-out attack on Iran. Their true intention was to trigger a chain of events which would create tension and provoke Iran, and eventually could have led to a war that might drag in the United States.
Israeli censors, notably, have blocked Israeli media from reporting when in 2010 the episode occurred. But sources told Al Monitor this week that the events occurred in mid-2010.
America made a big (and wise) decision yesterday. Israel has a big decision coming in January. It's time for Netanyahu to go. He can't be trusted by the US and he's sabotaged far too many attempts at peace, provoked far too many calls for war, and interfered in our elections in a way that is unprecedented and alienating towards its only ally in the region: us. Israel needs to choose a leader that can be trusted by America, one who will work for peace and a Palestinian state. Otherwise, I see a rough road ahead for them.
Israelis should make a wise decision and choose a new path for themselves, for their own well being most of all. Given his role in all this, Obama won't say it publicly, he's got more class than Bibi and unlike Bibi, he's wise, responsible, and professional. But the world knows it to be true.
