Short story: KPOJ replaced by FOX and KPTK 1090 rumored to be replaced by CBS Sports related programs apparently.
Clear Channel was taken private in 2008 by Bain Capital, LLC and Thomas H. Lee Partners, now operating as CC Media Holdings, Inc...
Is there any wonder, given Romney lost? One could speculate that the Romney message would be greatly assisted by having control over so much radio media, and with no message to deliver, a move to sports?
It all started with Air America which aired before the Kerry run at the White House. Air America had in KPOJ a flagship station programmed along with Ed Schultz. So many great voices back then, some continuing today.
End of an era for radio listeners here. Many of you might not think too much of radio, and I can't blame you given the company those voices kept on the radio dial. Not that they wanted to, but because they had to.
Frankly, they still do, but now a lot is lost. Radio is one of the basic media forms. It's not too sexy compared to podcasts, our own Dkos radio (which I simply must start to queue on my phone now), social media and Internet in general, TV
, but
radio is free, easy to access, works well in the car, and it touches a lot of people each day. Some of those touches helped us by simply normalizing the message otherwise highly biased to regressive ends.
Those great voices got me through a lot of tough times, got me thinking about a lot of things, helped me gain awareness of many political nuances and just were good company when there were few other options. It worked a lot like Dkos does, and I've been here since near the beginning, and I'll stay too. It's not about any of that.
This is about payback. Many say liberal talk doesn't work, but then they can't really explain NPR very well, nor was it ever really given a shot or the kind of investment given to conservative talkers who dominate the medium today.
We got Rachel Maddow from that ecosystem. Randi Rhodes was a big proponent for getting our message out on radio, working with Hilary Clinton and other Democratic party leaders to convince them how important it is that we have our message out there.
Ed Schultz is another one. The two of them are on TV, with Ed Schultz still doing radio, while complaining that he really could use another show! If we were to ask them about the importance of basic media, I'm quite sure both of them would cite their experiences on radio as basic building blocks to where they are today.
This really pisses me off! I would tune in during my drives and get informed, motivated, entertained and feel connected just as I do when I can go online, or listen to a podcast.
But those things are harder. Not everybody has a data plan on their phone that makes sense. Not everybody has a computer, or can listen at work, or Internet at home either
, but
nearly everybody has a radio and a TV. When it's heard on the radio and the TV, it STILL MATTERS. Radio and TV are established media forms, and despite their many limitations and issues, inform people in such numbers and with such potency that they can set norms and build basic expectations out there that we need to keep building.

Right now is the time to continue building, not break down. The best talent from the AAR days ended up out there doing great things, helping to normalize being liberal, helping to inform people, motivate them, and most importantly check the many abuses seen elsewhere.
Sometimes they just keep people sane, connected and hopeful too.
Our movement, our party, our cause is worse for this shit, while conservatives continue to dominate radio, nearly unchecked but for some great grassroots efforts.
Not feeling good today. Not at all.
