First things first. My heart goes out to the families who have lost a loved one. Such tragedy.
I find it distasteful that people use a tragedy such as this to make a case for their religious beliefs. So self-serving. Both Mike Huckabee and Bryan Fischer have stated today that this event was the consequence in part due to the fact that the schools have less God. Huckabee stated that the schools "systematically removed God", while Fischer horrendously said "God could have protected the victims of this massacre, but didn't because "God is not going to go where he is not wanted""
This line of thinking is so faulty, and here's the logic to prove why....
If the level of religion present in a school system is a barometer on how much tragedy will visit then Canada should be getting hit more often per capita. We do not have the Lords prayer here. School is very secular north of the border. And we have more agnostics/atheists in our general population too. You'd think we should be flattened by now. But in fact the opposite is true. We have half the amount of firearms death per capita than the US. (9/100K vs. 4.65/100K) God must like our secular ways.
And what about Britain? They have less religion than Canada, and even less gun violence. Go figure Huckabee. Same goes for Sweden, France, Iceland, Germany, Scotland, Switzerland, etc. How do you explain how the godless heathens and their children have it better off Fischer?
It doesn't take much to look into facts before formulating a theory. And ignoring facts (as I'm sure these two have) is deceitful. Doesn't religion teach that it's wrong to lie? Isn't it detestable to manipulate the pain of others for your own gain?
They need to apologize to the families. Please join me and send these two men emails demanding them to retract their statements and apologize because there is empirical evidence that proves them wrong.
If they are "men of God" they will feel compelled to do the right thing
